Devils Top Class A Defense List, AP Poll

October 16, 2007

Despite giving up 12 points in Sparta last Friday, our Red Devils remain the top defensive squad in Class. As a team, Lincoln County has allowed 21 points through 6 games for an average of 3.5. The Lincoln faithful know the defense itself has allowed only 12 points, with both TDs coming via the pass.

The Grangers from LaGrange lead all classes in scoring defense with a 1.0 point per game average. Tucker and Jenkins tie for second at 1.2, with Northside Warner Robins and Chamblee tied for 4th at 3.3. Our Devils are sixth state-wide.

Wilcox County, knocked from its #1 ranking last Friday, is second in Class A with 6.7.

Our Devils also lead Class A in scoring differential with a 31.7 points per game average.

Looking at the polls, our Devils are ranked #1 by the Associated Press, with ECI not far behind. South Georgia is represented in the next 3 slots with Pacelli, Dooly County, and Clinch County. Fellowship Christian is sixth, followed by Wilcox County, 7-A foe Warren County, Athens Academy, and Seminole County.

Meanwhile, over at the AJC offices, after their pick-to-win-it-all Wilcox County was surprised by a bunch of Rebels from Ashburn, the Atlanta sportswriters have now picked ECI as the next team-to-win-it-all.

Our Devils are second in the AJC poll, followed by Pacelli, Clinch, Dooly, Fellowship Christian, Warren, Turner, Wilcox, and Brookstone.

Big games this week include Seminole County at Clinch County and Turner County at Hawkinsville.

And next week, the big showdown in Region 7-A in Lincolnton. That assumes our Devils are able to win down in Irwinton this Friday.
