(GREENSBORO, GA) Lincoln County completed a second consecutive perfect regular season with a 42-0 pounding of Greene County here last Friday night.
The top-ranked Red Devils will host the Randolph-Clay Red Devils on November 14 as the Class A Division II playoffs start. A win earns Lincoln County a second round home playoff game against the winner of Hawkinsville vs. Trion November 21.
Mekhi Wade completed all five of his pass attempts for 146 yards and a touchdown. He rushed three times for 36 yards and a TD. Jonathan Norman caught four passes for 120 yards. Kelbi Glaze rushed five times for 81 yards and three touchdowns.
Lincoln County outgained the Tigers 479 to 161.
Glaze returned the opening kickoff ten yards then rushed for another 15 for a first down at the LC 41. Christian Elam ran for four before Norman grabbed a four-yard pass from Wade. Wade ran for five before Glaze went untouched down the right side for 46 yards. The touchdown came with 9:31 left in the opening period. Fortson Partridge booted the PAT for a 7-0 lead.
The Tigers punted to LCHS, but the Devils muffed the ball and the Tigers took possession at the LC 36. After a 6-yard gain, Aiden Jones intercepted at the LC 25 and scampered 75 yards for an apparent touchdown. However, an illegal block brought the ball back to the GC 32.
After a seven-yard gain by Elam and 19-yard gain by Norman, Glaze scored from the two. With 6:29 left in the first quarter, the visitors led 14-0.
Another Tiger possession ended with another Tiger punt. Wade found speedster Norman open in the left flat and he zoomed down the LC sideline 72 yards for a touchdown. Partridge booted the extra point for a 21-0 lead with 4:40 remaining in the first.
Greene County picked up two first downs before Jones intercepted another Tiger pass at the LC 14. He had runs of 19 and 14 on the drive to reach midfield. Glaze ran for 13. Wade connected with Norman for 32 to reach the 5. Glaze ran the pigskin in from there with 9:13 left in the half. LC led 28-0.
Jeremiah Wynn sacked the Tiger QB for a 10-yard loss to force another punt. Wade shrugged off two tackles to gain 18 to midfield. He then passed 26 yards to Walter Thornton and 12 yards to Norman. Wade then scored on the ground from the 13. Partridge remained perfect to put the Devils up 35-0 at the half.
Elam broke loose for 62 yards in the third quarter. He was barely caught at the 11. Travis Franklin ran for seven. Norman scored untouched on the left side. LCHS led 42-0 with 8:41 left in the third.
The remainder of the game was played under GHSA running clock rules. The younger Devils were at the GC 1 when the game ended.
Warren County nipped Washington-Wilkes 6-0 with a late touchdown followed by a goal line defense to earn second place in the region. W-W finished third with Greene fourth.
