Greenbrier, Burke, Greene New Opponents for Devils in 2004-05

November 10, 2003

In October, the Georgia High School Association finalized the 2004-2005 Class Realignment plan. Click here for the full plan from GHSA.net.

Lincoln County will remain in Region 7-A for the next two school years. Twiggs County and Johnson County are moved to Region 4-A. Hancock Central and Washington-Wilkes move down from 7-AA to 7-A.

Lincoln County will have 5 region games: Aquinas, GMC, Hancock Central, Warren County, and W-W. That leaves five non-region games to schedule. Our sources tell us that our Devils will face Greene County (AA), Burke County (AAA), Commerce, Athens Academy, and first-time opponent Greenbrier (AAAA) in its 2004 non-region games. A preseason scrimmage with Thomson is also under discussion.

In other interesting region realignments, Clinch County and Miller County find themselves both in Region 1-A. Twiggs and Johnson will have to contend with Hawkinsville in 4-A. Bowdon Bremen, and Trion will battle in 6-A, and four private schools and Mt. Zion fill 5-A's football quotient.

GHSA also enacted a "mercy rule" for football games. Click here for the details of what can happen with a 30-point lead.
